ROOMS METHOD MONTESSORY

4035

Before commenting on the decoration with the Montessory method I am going to explain the purpose of this method: It is to decorate the room of the smallest of the house, so that the children can follow their own learning, in a free environment where they can move and play freely.

When the time of the arrival of a new member to the family approaches, many times we start to decorate and fill the baby's room with objects and we forget that the most important thing are the useful elements and not the decorative ones.

The room should be a space where the child has freedom of movement, so that they can develop their own instincts. In this way, children more easily promote their physical and cognitive development.

It has been shown that the good preparation and decoration of a baby room with this method improves the development of the baby, for this reason we are going to explain you how to decorate a Montessory room.

THE MONTESSORY ROOM

For the decoration of a baby's room the base will be the color, since we must use light and luminous colors and not recharge it with many objects.  A simple decoration where order is the main axis is essential, the objects should be made of natural materials to transmit calm to the baby.  The space itself is important, because the baby will need that space to move freely.

MONTESSORY FURNITURE

The furniture of the room will have to be adapted to the size of the child, so that he can reach any object by himself, this is essential. Seeing everything at his height and within his reach will give him greater freedom of movement, fundamental in the Montessory method.

According to the Montessory method, the furniture will change as the child grows, so you can reach everything you need without having to ask the parents.

The bed will have to be level with the floor, cradles with bars are history. Once the child crawls, putting a mattress on the floor will help us, so the child will have free movement when he wakes up or when he wants to lie down.

MONTESSORY MATERIALS

We tend to recharge the room with many toys and objects with lights and sounds, thinking that it is better for stimulation and development. Nothing like that, according to Montessory the ideal are toys made of natural materials such as wood or textile, so that children can perceive their smell, texture, touch... They have to have different toys to be able to choose, but they don't have to go too far, more is not better. Today's toys are too elaborate and the only thing they do is reduce children's creativity; and the most commonly used material, plastic, can be harmful to their health.

MIRRORS

Mirrors are essential to decorate a room following the Montessory method, and they must be at baby's level. It is not usual to place mirrors at this height, but in the Montessori method it is necessary, as it is a good way of stimulating the child. Children will be able to observe each other and see all their movements in an easy way. It is usual to put a wooden bar, so when you stand up it will be a good tool to grab and start walking at the same time you observe.

MONTESSORY WALL DECORATION

On the wall we can place pictures or plates with different drawings, this way the child will encourage their creativity. Plates with animals, numbers, letters... the important thing is that the child observes and in this way develops his imagination.

MONTESSORY ORDER

The order is necessary in a Montessory room, it is necessary to organize the room always in the same way and to leave everything in the same place. The order helps the child to have reference points and to organize himself better, so he will learn to return the objects always to the same place.

All the points that we have commented are essential for a bedroom decorated with the Montessori method, in this way the children will be educated in an environment of free movement and will benefit their development.
